Even though Canberra is the capital of Australia, Sydney is its oldest, largest, most populous and most diverse city. Located on the east coast of the island continent, Sydney is the capital of New South Wales.

Here is a brief overview of some tourist attractions in Sydney.

The Sydney Opera House

This beautiful building is a masterpiece of late modern architecture. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The root of the building comprises sets of interlocking vaulted shells set upon a vast terraced platform and surrounded by terrace areas that function as pedestrian concourses.

Bondi Beach

There are around 40 beaches in Sydney. Located 7 km east of the CBD, this popular beach attracts many tourists throughout the year. You can see whales and dolphins during the migration months. The beach features many cafes, hotels and restaurants.

The Museum of Sydney

Sydney is well-known for its museums and art galleries. The Museum of Sydney explorer colonial and contemporary Sydney through its exhibits. Panoramic views of this wonderful city (from 1788 till today) stretch across walls and video screens of this museum.

Sydney Harbor Bridge

This steel through arch bridge is built across Sydney harbor and carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the CBD and the North Shore. The spectacular view of the bridge, harbor and the opera house is an iconic image of the city and the nation.

Hyde Park

Hyde Park is a large park located towards the east of the CBD. The park is well-maintained and houses around 580 trees. It is famous for its fig tree lined avenues. The Archibald Fountain is located at the center of the park.

Royal Botanic Gardens

It is one among the three botanic gardens in Sydney. This garden houses more than 22,000 Grey-headed Flying Foxes, a species of fruit bat. The Pyramid Glasshouse is on of the attractions here.

Sydney Tower

Also known as the Sydney Tower Eye, it is the tallest (309 m) free standing structure in Sydney. Located on Market Street, this tower has a maximum capacity of 960 people. You can enjoy a wonderful view of the city from the top of the tower.
