Holland is a region in the western parts of the Netherlands. However, it is frequently used to refer to the whole of Netherlands. Even though this practice is accepted outside Netherlands, Dutch do not approve of it. Half of Netherlands lies below sea level. Holland tourism attractions are many.

Netherlands is well-known for its canals, flat landscapes, historic town centers, sandy beaches and classic wind mills. Here is a brief overview of some popular tourist attractions of Netherlands.

Keukenhof Gardens

Located near Lisse, Netherlands, Keukenhof Gardens is the largest flower garden in the world. Also known as the Garden of Europe, it is open from mid-March to mid-May. Nearly seven million flower bulbs are planted annually in this garden.

Canals of Amsterdam

Amsterdam has more than 100 km of canals. The 17th century canal ring area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The canal system stands as an example good urban planning.

West Frisian Islands

This chain of islands is located in the North Sea off the Dutch coast. Cycling on these islands is a wonderful experience. You can reach some of the islands by walking on the mudflats. However, it is advisable to take a local guide with you.

Kinderdijk

Netherlands is well-known for its wind mills. You will find more than 1,000 wind mills in this beautiful country. Most of them are located near the village of Kinderdijk. Some of the mills located here were built in the early part of the 18th century.

Delft City Hall

This Renaissance style building is located on the Markt Square across from the Nieuwe Kerk. It was the seat of the city’s government. Today it is used for civic wedding ceremonies.

St.Christoffel National Park

This national park houses many species of flora and fauna. Hiking, cave excursions, safaris, deer watching, and animal presentations are popular activities among tourists visiting the park.

Rijksmuseum

Located in Amsterdam, it is the largest museum of art and history in Netherlands. You will find paintings from the Dutch Golden Age, by artists like Rembrandt. This museum is art lover’s paradise.

Hoge Veluwe

With its sand dunes, woodlands and heathlands, this national park is one of the largest natural reserves in the country. You will find Kroller-Muller Museum here. You can use bicycles to move around the park.
