Tourist attractions of Hong Kong

Hong Kong (like Macau) is a special administrative region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China. This beautiful city-state is well-known for its natural harbor and skyscrapers. Much of the city’s terrain in hilly to mountainous. This densely populated city has a humid subtropical climate. The east meets west in Hong Kong.

Here is a brief overview of some Hong Kong tourist attractions.

Bronze Buddha at Tian Tan 

This huge bronze statue of Buddha weighs over 250 tons. It is a major center of Buddhism in Hong Kong. In the statue, Buddha sits on a lotus throne on top of a three platform altar.

Hong Kong Global Geopark of China

This Geopark is made of eight Geo-Areas distributed across the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region and Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region. UNESCO listed this Geopark as part of its Global Geoparks Network in the year 2011.

Victoria Peak

Also known as Mount Austin, this mountain is well-known for its parks. You can enjoy a spectacular view of the city and the Victoria harbor from the top of this mountain. This mountain attracts around seven million tourists every year.

Hong Kong Disneyland

Located in Penny’s Bay, this theme park comprises five themed areas:Main Street, U.S.A, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Toy Story Land, Adventureland and Fantasyland. Many entertainment shows are organized frequently.

Avenue of stars

The Avenue of Stars is similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Located along the Victoria Harbour waterfront, it honors celebrities of the Hong Kong industry.

Temple Street’s Night Market

You can find rows of brightly lit stalls here. Watches, electronic gadgets, cloths, pens, CDs, hardware, luggage and much more are available here for a bargain. Chinese opera enthusiasts are game for an impromptu performance. Fortunetellers attract many tourists here.

Star Ferry

This passenger ferry service carry passengers across Victoria harbor. You can enjoy beautiful views of the city during the ride.

Happy Valley Racecourse

This is one of the two popular racecourses for horse racing. First built in 1845, this racecourse is used by the Hong Kong Jockey Club for horse racing meets. Events usually take place on Wednesday nights and are open for the public. You will also find Hong Kong Jockey Club Archive and Museum here.
