5 Reasons to go to Vietnam on Your Next Holiday

Although not an off the beaten track destination, Vietnam often doesn’t even make it to the top ten list of aspiring travelers. We’ve all heard about it due to the war and many of us have seen pictures of its famous landmarks, but few actually look at it as a holiday destination. It’s time that Vietnam is viewed as the stunning holiday spot that it is, so here are just a few reasons why you should take your next vacation to this stunning country.

The Natural Scenery

Ha Long Bay is one of Vietnam’s most well known natural gems. It truly exceeds any regular tourist trap with its silky blue waters, giant limestone towers and quiet, uninhabited beaches. Although the most famous, Vietnam has more to offer than just the bay. Visit the mountain town of Sapa for misty views of rolling mountains, terraced rice fields and tiny villages amongst it all. Travelers through Vietnam can visit some of the largest cave systems in the world, trek through rain forests and national parks and get caught up in some adventurous activities in the forested highlands. Visit the beaches of Nha Trang and enjoy the underwater life with a snorkeling trip on Phu Quoc Island.

The Activities

Navigating yourself from sight to sight around the cities won’t be the only thing keeping you busy on your holiday. Try adventure sports such as canyoning, sea kayaking, paddle boarding and rock climbing or explore the beaches with snorkeling, diving trips or just a dip by the coast. Travelers can visit historic locations and museums or spend their days in and out of the culturally significant cafes. See the famous water puppet shows, take a cooking class or rent a motorbike and explore the countryside. There is always something new to discover.

The History

Occupied by  many and ravaged by war, Vietnam has a lot of history to share with visitors. You can see the war museum and imperial palace in Saigon, or just roam around Hanoi until you stumble upon captured American helicopters and war planes. In Hanoi you can visit the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh himself or check out the Cu Chi war tunnels right outside of Saigon.

The Affordability

Holidays can get expensive but in Vietnam, the price is right. Due to such a low cost of living and fantastic exchange rate to most western currencies, travel in Vietnam is extremely low budget. Nice hotels can run a measly $30 dollars a night and hostel
